The Seven Principles of RESPECTisms has been developed with the needs and concerns of today's youth in mind. The principles of RESPECTisms cover with many of the major challenges that young people today face during their teenage years and into their adulthood. The Seven Principles of RESPECTisms engages students in a way that inspires them to think more about their life, behaviour and actions.

The Seven Principles of RESPECTisms aims to nurture the development of positive character traits through life skills training and character education. Character education and life skills training builds emotional intelligence in young people and they are just as important as academic skills in preparing them for future employment, social integration and participation in the community. ? Through the use of RESPECTisms students learn to become better decision-makers, have ownership of their choices, and eventually feel confident and secure as they mature into adulthood

The seven focus areas of RESPECTisms form important building blocks for all young people irrespective of age, race, class, religion or culture.

The learning objectives and outcomes for each of the seven focus areas are as follows:

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Accept responsibility for your actions
  • Take control of your future
  • Don't make excuses
  • Don't blame others

 

EDUCATION:

  • Value your education
  • You never stop learning
  • Education comes in many form

 

SAY NO:

  • Say no to negative influences and people
  • Have the strength and courage to SAY NO!
  • Your self-worth is not enhanced by the physical attention of other people

 

PEERS:

  • Developing positive relationships
  • Resist negative peer pressure
  • Choose your friends carefully
  • Teamwork makes the dreamwork

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Always have high expectations of yourself
  • Strive to be the best you can be
  • Believe in yourself and your abilities
  • Do not let anyone lower your self-esteem

 

CONSEQUENCES:

  • Think before you act
  • You always have a choice
  • There are consequences for every choice you make in life
  • Make choices that will have good outcomes

 

TIME:

  • Respect time
  • Plan and set goals
  • Tomorrow belongs to the people that prepare for it today
  • Time waits for no-one so don't waste it
