Consequences Outcomes

Consequences Learning Outcomes and Relevance.

In summary the needs and concerns of today's youth form the foundation of The Seven Principles of RESPECTisms and their outcomes. The principles of RESPECTisms play a major relevance to their everyday lives cover many of the major challenges young people today face during their teenage years and into adulthood.

CONSEQUENCES

Outcomes:

  • Think before you act
  • You always have a choice
  • There are consequences for every choice you make in life
  • Make choices that will have good outcomes

Relevance:

Though young people learn from an early age that their own actions have some kind of consequence, the full extent of this truth may not be apparent to all.  For some, the word probably evokes little more than the threat of punishment. We all have some power to influence outcomes positively and so take control of our futures. Young people who learn to recognise this have the edge, since it is especially in the teenage years that young people have to make many crucial decisions, especially regarding their education and life.

Educators have long since abandoned the notion that punishment alone is an effective corrective measure or, indeed, much of a deterrent. Instead, initiatives such as PSHE and SEAL aim to develop social and emotional intelligence. Punishment has traditionally been a tool to enforce conformity and compliance. In contrast, a positive understanding of consequences empowers young people as individuals.

This positive understanding empowers young people to analyse consequences and measure and formulate responses that are beneficial to the individual involved. Though we cannot always make decisions for the young people around us, we can equip them with the skills to assess situations, manage responses and think through the implications of their choices
