Say No Outcomes

Say No Learning Outcomes and Relevance.

In summary the needs and concerns of today's youth form the foundation of The Seven Principles of RESPECTisms and their outcomes. The principles of RESPECTisms play a major relevance to their everyday lives cover many of the major challenges young people today face during their teenage years and into adulthood.

SAY NO

Learning Outcomes:

  • Say no to negative influences and people
  • Have the strength and courage to SAY NO!
  • Your self-worth is not enhanced by the physical attention of other people

Relevance:

Many young people today have well-formed ideas about the world, and what is right and wrong, and are not afraid to voice them. Millions have joined in to support important causes and are steadfast in saying ‘No’ to social and other threats (such as global warming and war). In other contexts, saying ‘No’ is not so easy, but learning to be assertive is a skill that pays dividends for young people, both in their schoolwork and in their personal lives.

Educators play a vital role in helping young people to explore their own identities and think and act independently. On the one hand, that requires the development of analytical skills. Teaching these is a conventional part of the educator’s role.  On the other hand, young people need to have the courage of their personal convictions. This too is something that can be learned.

Young children have few problems with saying no but not always at the right time. As children grow, environmental influences come into play and encourage them to over-ride instinctive responses. That is essential, since all children must learn to postpone self-gratification and consider others.
